About the Birds

Who We Are…

In 2024, Liarbird was established out of growing concern of the persistent and ongoing damage created by cybercrime. With over 30 years of collective experience serving Government missions in cyber and threat intelligence, the founders bring hands-on and academic skills in cyber security, behavioural science and strategic defence.

Working hard to put ourselves out of a job…

As we see it, countering cybercrime isn’t just a technical problem, it’s a human problem. From data breaches to ransomware attacks and corporate espionage, there are always humans behind the attack. These are almost always very rational humans, looking to minimise risk and maximise reward. Therefore, cybercrime thrives when the potential payoffs are high and the risks to the attacker are low.

Our proactive cyber defence approach turns this on its head, by reducing the potential payoffs and putting attackers at risk. This is great for customers, but it’s also great for everyone else at risk of falling victim to cybercrime. Because we don’t just want to stop the bad guys, we want to put the bad guys out of business.

Did you guys spell “Lyrebird” wrong…

Inspired by the Lyrebird, a native Australian bird that mimics a wide variety of sounds, from chainsaws to car alarms, the concept of “Liarbird” was born. Unlike other animals that mimic their natural environment to hide from predators, Lyrebirds use this skill to attract attention, and hopefully, a mate.

This is why the Liarbird team values the use of deception technology in the toolkit. We mimic genuine devices in your network and use it to attract our mates (attackers) toward us and away from your business.
